Guidelines for home gyms:  Location and set-up procedures

When planning your exercise program, is it better to set up compact home gyms or join a local health club? Here are some points to keep in mind.

Large athletic facilities are not necessary for superior fitness results. Your house can offer you convenience, a private setting and an excellent way to save time.

How to set up household gyms and still save money.

Keep in mind that instead of paying money to join a health and fitness club, you can use those same dollars to invest in your own personal equipment found in gyms. Once you spend your money at the health club for initiation fees, monthly dues, etc., it is gone forever. But, when they deliver your treadmill, elliptical trainer or whatever you select, directly to your front door...  it's yours to keep for as long as you like.

Why wait in long lines for a machine at the health club. In the comfort of your own family room, you can exercise at your leisure. Select the background music that pleases and motivates you to continue.

Can your home substitute as a facility equipped for your physical training needs? What if your living space is small? Maybe you live in a townhouse or want to use part of your living room for your conditioning program. There are machines available today specifically designed to save space. Many models are made to fold up, occupy a small space and yet still provide a multitude of exercise options.

Remember to locate your workout devices in an area that is bright and airy. It should be well ventilated and possibly equipped with a portable fan to circulate the air. As the seasons change, a heating and cooling system would be required.

Try to stay away from rooms that are too dark. An area filled with natural light from windows will stimulate and motivate you to improve.

If your housing area is limited, then amplify your space with mirrors. You can change a small abode into a space that seems larger than it actually is. Mirrors will also allow you to check your posture and form depending on the exercises you are performing.

Consider placing your equipment on a floor that is hard and stable. If this is not possible, then select carpeting with a "short-pile". And if you're concerned about protecting the flooring, use rubber mats under the gym equipment.

Earlier we mentioned music in our report. Music can be a tremendous motivational tool. Just use your imagination to  elevate your energy levels. Choose music that you enjoy. Why not furnish the inside of your home gyms with posters of your favorite runner, track star, bodybuilder, or admired athlete.
